By Kerry Williamson

Walsall 1 - 5 Coventry City Sky Blues
League 9/10/04

Coventry was going into this game on a high from a fine win from last week.

Coventry started off well, with some good attempts and some solid defending. The Walsall defence could not hold on for long with some mazy runs from Stacey Christie and the pace from Jessica Bradnick upfront. Half way through the first half Coventry won a throw in near their goal, and a long throw from Natalie and a bicycle kick cross from Stacey was finished with a sneaky flick into the back of the net by Diana. The second goal came from Jessica, with a ball over the top from jade went over the Walsall defence and left Jessica to use her pace and calmly place the ball in the net. Near the end of the first half Walsall broke free and shot narrowly wide.

Half time Walsall 0 - 2 Coventry City Sky Blues.

Coventry started the second half how they finished the first, piling the pressure on the Walsall defence with Jessica, Stacey, Natalie and Lauren having plenty of shots. The Walsall team never stopped and had a couple of shots with the city keeper Nadine making comfortable saves. Man of the match Alex Lowerly made some fantastic tackles in the defence. The pressure was too much for city to take and Walsall brought a goal back. City weren’t bothered by this goal and went straight back on the attack with another Jessica goal to make it 3-1. The Coventry girls weren’t going to settle for this and a fantastic run by Stacey which stared at the half way line ended with a simple pass to Jessica to get her hat trick. A few minutes from the end Coventry made it 5-1 with Diana tapping in from 6 yards, her second of the game.

Another fantastic win for Coventry. Bring on Wolves next week!

Solihull Borough 3 - 5 Coventry City Sky Blues
League 2/10/04

Coventry recorded their second win of the season with a 3-5 victory over Solihull. The win was more impressive after an going an early goal down within 5 minutes, however the Coventry girls kept their heads and settled down and within a couple of minutes were 2-1 up with two great goals by Jessica Bradnick (her seventh goal in four games). Nevertheless Solihull kept going and got a goal back to make it 2-2, Coventry came straight back at them with a Stacey Christie goal just before half time.

Half time: Solihull Borough 2 - 3 Coventry City Sky Blues

Coventry came out second half determined for more goals, and got the fourth goal from Natalie Kimberlin where her shot went past the keeper at the near post (a well deserved goal) Solihull weren’t going to lie down and came back with another goal to make it 3-4. the pressure was on for city’s defence but Stacey Christie got her second of the game and should have had a hat trick a few minutes later but the referee obstructed her and the chance was gone. Solihull provided more pressure minutes from the end with two consecutive corners and a free kick on the edge of the box but the city defence were having none of it and defended superbly with the city keeper making a fine save right at the end.

A well deserved three points.
