Under 16 B Match Report 2009/10
Coventry City Girls 3 - 0 Rugby Town
League 12/5/10
That will do me!!
One of the pre-season title favourites tonight secured the runners up spot, and to have to win 5 out of the last 6 games to do it deserves a lot of credit. The odds were probably against us but we did it. We were behind on fixtures and points in the bag are always best are they not?
We entertained a spirited rugby side in our last league game of the season and had to win to pinch 2nd spot
Tonight's team
An early goal is always good and perhaps needed to settle you in a must win encounter, the much improved STUTS scored after 7 mins to set us on our way. We went on to have the majority of play in the first half with a few chances going just wide and we could have been further ahead before RUBY made it 2-0 with a well taken goal midway through the half. It was not a great performance to be honest and rugby were indeed a threat and did play some excellent football, but some superbly timed tackles and good defensive play held them at bay
With
The second half was very even and credit to rugby who did knock it about very well and showing what a good side they are. They did deserve a goal and but for our post would have done but we all need a bit of luck sometimes!!
It was more of a battle for us and it was hard work. We still did have the better chances and with a bit more luck we would have put the game to bed a lot earlier than we did. We had to wait until 10 to go when
I have to give rugby credit for an excellent performance and who did play the better football on the night.
Well played to everybody – good luck for next season.
Girls – we done what we had to do and I take my hat off to you all. Its been a hard few weeks when you have been under a lot of pressure to win every game that you have played. It's not always easy to play the way we want to play when you have to win games and I thought we may have blown it when those nice girls form Loughborough beat us, but you responded in a manner that was fantastic. You took it on and deserved to finish where you did especially considering the pressure you were under I am indeed not worthy to have such a BRILLIANT group of people. You make me so proud – thank you.
Many thanks to the parents for their support – your girls are immense.

Coventry City Girls 0 - 3 Oadby and Wigston Girls
League 9/5/10
TBF
Today's team
We tried but failed to beat the league winners Oadby and Wigston today at the Wolston Arena.
3-0 suggests a comprehensive victory and although a deserved win for Oadby it was probably not as convincing as the score line suggests.
The first half was evenly contested with both sides being unlucky to have not taken the lead. Both hit the woodwork and a couple of goal line clearances were the closest to anybody taking the lead. An excellent first halfs football for both sides 0-0.
Oadby took the leads about ten minutes into the 2nd half through an excellent finish form a striker who is destined for great things. A lovely piece of individual skill resulted in the ball hitting our onion bag.
They took control from here on in and got a hold of the game which was not helped by us having injured players and going down to 10 but its tough at the top and you go with what you have. They scored again about 10 minutes later and sealed the game with 10 to go to end up with a good win and fair play to Oadby they deserved it.
In summing up I thought we gave a decent account of ourselves and I have no grumbles (for a change)
we play Oadby in the cup final on May 23 and everything looks geared up for a great final lets hope it is.
Well done again to Oadby, a very good side who we enjoy playing against.
Well done to our girls – you give it your best shot but it was not to be.
Thanks to all of the parents for their support.

Coventry City Girls 2 - 1 Bedworth Eagles Girls
League 5/5/10
Bedrock Bedlam
A full squad for the first time this season.
Tonight's team, Sofia, Paige, Ash, Linz, Lauren, Westy ( C ) AT, Woody, Stuts, Sam, Ruby. –
It’s a long season and sometimes we get a bit above ourselves and a bit excited about winning a few football games and we can tend to make silly comments forgetting we have to meet again. Well tonight was payback time and this was a game that I had been looking forward to for a while. We beat our closest rivals 2-1 and put the poor memory of a 5-0 defeat earlier in the season to bed. Now 2-1 is not as good as 5-0 but taken in context its worth the same amount of points and puts us in with a chance of finishing runners up after a frustrating season so all of the pressure was on us as we HAD to win, and win we did and richly deserved too. This was a hard fought game with no quarter given and was a battle throughout and not a game for the football purist but exciting all the same and we were rightful winners but take nothing away from Bedworth who gave it a magnificent effort. Credit to every Bedworth player.
The games highlights were two stunning goals one from Westy to make it 1-0 and the other from
Well done to every Bedworth girl, you gave it everything and should be proud that you took part in such a contest.
So we won and we won with two of our most influential girls injured from 5 and 20 mins in and taking no further part in the game – A FANTASTIC EFFORT
Girls a give you enough stick (most of it warranted) but tonight I could ask no more of you and was really proud of you all. HATS OFF TO ALL!!
MOM – LEGGY
Special mention, to Westy, Masher, Lozzo, Ash, Sizzle, god dam it all of you!!
Many thanks, to all of our parents for the excellent support.Coventry City Girls 3 - 2 Caterpillar Girls

Pat on the Catrdon Bardon
A tight game today against the usual competitive caterpillar girls. Not a fantastic display by any means but still a good 3 points.
Well played to all of the caterpillar girls, a very sporting team and a credit to all.
Well played to my girls, we got over the line but it should have been more convincing.
Many thanks to the old trout and the wife for the help with the nets etc.
For the record here's the team and scorers.
Goals from WESTY, SAM AND STUTS.

Bardon Hill 1 - 3 Coventry City Girls
League 25/4/10
Pardon Bardon
Up and running for our last away game of the season where we had a
AT,
First half report – Bardon 1- 0 Keystone Cops - a joke performance but it was not found funny.
Second half report – Bardon Hill 1 – 3 Coventry City Girls.
Strong, harsh but truthful words were spelt out at half time. The performance was simply not good enough.
We approached the 2nd half they way we should of approached the 1st half, purposeful and intent on winning the game and perhaps using our heads to play the game rather than our legs.
A much better showing in the 2nd half resulted in us coming home with a deserved victory in what is always a tough clash against Bardon. A few changes were made a quarter of the way through the half and these paid dividends as SAM got an equaliser midway through the half with a shot from the middle of the area, this was mainly down to the persistence of Ruby who chased and harassed Bardon in there own half to set up Sam.
Before the goal we did create a number of chances and were on top. Bardon did have one good effort but stand in keeper AT pulled of a good save which was vital at the time.
Once we had got the equaliser there was only going to be one winner as we had a lot more drive and energy than in the first half and going down the slope on the pitch it certainly helped. Various changes were taking place mainly up front and in midfield to try and force the winner and again chances came and went, the excellent Bardon keeper helping to keep us at bay. It was mainly all sky blue now and the green army were having their work cut out to hold it at 1-1 but we managed a second goal when with ten minutes to go WOODY shot high and the keeper parried the ball but unfortunately for her in it went with the keeper and defender trying to scramble it away but the ball nestled into the net 2-1 and very happy!!
We did deserve to be in front on chances created and we made the game safe in the last minute when RUBY got the goal her performance warranted toe poking the ball past the keeper in the six yard box. So it ended at 3-1 and a long trip was made worthwhile. Hats off to the girls they answered the heavy criticism directed to them at half time and were worthy winners in the end, we did make a lot of chances in the 2nd half and our general play was so much better, plenty of excellent balls into the box and all of the 3 units (defence, midfield and forwards) worked together and produced the goods.
Well done girls, you gave the response I wanted and got the 3 points in a much better second half performance.
GOALS – SAM 60,
MOM – LINDSAY CLARK & RUBY
Well played to all from Bardon. A fine footballing team and a fine group of girls. Good luck in your remaining games.
Thank you to
Many thanks to
Thanks also to all of our parents for their support – ear, ear!!
Coventry City Girls 2 - 1 Loughborough Foxes
Cup 18/4/10
Foxes Outfoxed!!
The girls beat Loughborough Foxes 2-1 to reach their 2nd cup final in consecutive seasons to set up a repeat of last years final against Oadby & Wigston – we lost by the way 2-1
.
Today's starting eleven:
A hard fought encounter resulted in the girls making it deservedly into the final, the game was tight throughout with little in the way of good football being played by either side but today was all about getting the result and on the balance of play and chances created we edged it and boy did it taste nice.
The early exchanges were even and LB could have taken the lead first but the shot cleared the bar from the side of the box, we took the lead in the 19 minute when WESTY collected the ball and advanced before hitting a screamer high into the net from about 25yards it was a top quality effort. The half was continued to be tight with no real chances for either side and we never really looked likely to concede. HT 1-0
The second half was similar to the first, with nobody really taking control and it was indeed a scrappy old game with little quality being shown by either side, but with the stakes so high you do tend to get that in cup semi finals. LB equalised midway through the half when a ball into the box was perhaps not defended to well with us all over to one side and up popped a white shirt to plonk it in to our net. This made us nervous at the back now and LB did press a bit and we did start to panic at the back a bit, that said we were still getting the best chances but through the ball not dropping for us and some excellent keeping by the LB keeper we stayed at 1-1 it was now a case of the next ones the winner and with the clock ticking down and extra time looming large the old nerves were jangling a bit, but with about 2 mins to go we scored what proved to be the winner a ball was put across the box and right on cue there was the fox in the box WOODY to slot home, LB still had time to equalise but luckily for us the ball went right across our area and we cleared. The whistle went and the girls celebrated as did our supporters and parents who I thank for the great support.
We were nowhere near our best today and if I am honest it was not a great game with both sides failing to produce much quality on the pitch but it was all about the result and we would have settled for this result before the game regardless of the performance so I am not going to grumble (not much anyway) we were gritty and resolute and deserved the win the LB keeper was far busier than Sofia and was without doubt their MOM.
As for the opposition well let's just say RESPECT – learn some!!
Well played girls you stuck to your task and got the result – AM VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL
GOALS – WESTY (19)

Coventry City Girls 7 - 1 Asfordby Amateurs
League 11/4/10
Legs Eleven
Just the bear 11 for our game at the Wolston Arena against our old friends from Asfordby.
A good first half display from the girls laid the foundations for a resounding win against Asfordby who we drew with earlier in what has been a stop start season 1-1.
A steady display today was spearheaded by
A slow start to the game with both us and Asfordby not really looking overly threatening, but we managed to take the lead in the 19th minute with Ash somehow scoring from virtually on the goal line when a keeper error kind of hit her and went in, a strange goal. This kicked us into gear though and we went quickly 3-0 up with
The second half was a bit of a non event really with both sides failing to play any good flowing football. It was good in bits and bobs but the passing and movement needed to be better, still we went on to score 3 more goals with the fox in the box getting her hat trick and assisted by Stuts and Lou who both had good finishes Asfordby never really threatened in the second half and we really should of scored more ourselves with indecision costing us more goals. Some people are never happy I know!!
All in all it was a decent performance with the returning Stuts and Ski knee putting some great balls into the area and helping to provide the goals.
Well played to all of the girls at Asfordy, good luck
It's always been a pleasure to play against you and we wish everybody all of the very best for the future.
Well played to our Legs eleven, we done what had to be done and everybody played their part in a good win.

loughborough Foxes 2 - 1 Coventry City Girls
League 28/3/10
Outfoxed!!
Today's team (bear 11) for the return fixture at Loughborough foxes.
Sizzle,
Another week goes by and still a short squad, it can be so frustrating!!
Not a lot to write today, we were beaten on the day by a Loughborough side that probably about deserved it. while we played with effort and work-rate our quality on the ball at times was poor, a lack of movement, poor decision making and constantly giving the ball away will not win you games.
We never really created enough going forward and our shooting was somewhat of target. That said we defended a lot better than the last game although both goals conceded could have perhaps been dealt with better.
We are not playing to our strengths at the moment and having an unsettled side which is constantly changing does not help, but we still need to show more to our game than we presently are.
For the record – we went 1-0 down 3 minutes into the second half and equalised through
MOM –
Oadby and Wigston 5 - 0 Coventry City Girls
Cup 14/3/10
What a difference a week makes
We travelled over to the champions elect (now champions) with two teams a first half team that more than matched the league leaders and a second half team that was straight from the telly.
1st half team – AT, Paige, Lauren, Linz, Shannon – Westy ( C ) Sam, Zoe, Woody – Ruby, Stuts – Sub, Lou
2nd half team – The Chuckle Brothers X1
First half report – an even game with both sides matching each other and having half chances to take the lead, Oadby did take the lead after about 30mins when a striker cut back inside from the left channel and struck a lovely shot into the roof of the net. It was a well taken goal. A pleasing first half really and it was game on.
Second half report - we were well beaten by the better side. Oadby were fitter, stronger and wanted it more. They raised their game to another level and we dropped ours 10 levels. It did not help that we had to adjust things due to a lack of players, an injury, and myself cocking it up tactically but in saying all that we totally shot ourselves in the foot with not enough urgency and defending that the chuckle brothers would have been proud of.
That said you defend from the front and when we did get the ball forward we were not strong enough and our hold up play was extremely poor. In the second half not enough of the girls wanted it and we were weak in comparison to an Oadby side that should be proud of the way they played the second half.
In summing up, Oadby richly deserved the win, and played the game hard and played the game well. I congratulate them on another magnificent achievement. You only get where they have got through hard work and dedication, a lesson for every team. Well done to all.
For us a lot to improve on (myself included) it was a dreadful second half and we can have no complaints. You cannot give silly balls away in your own area and expect to get away with it and you cannot get away with not competing, simple as that. Everybody needs to own up to what went on in that second half and I take my share of the blame but some of what we seen out there in the second half was not acceptable and wont be.
To me to you – many thanks to the parents for their help with lifts and support etc.
MOM – SAM WALKER – one of only a few who gave it everything.
Coventry City Girls 8 - 0 Rugby Town
Cup 7/3/10
A first goal for Linz!!
A beautiful sunny day at the wolston arena where we entertained our near neighbours Rugby Town in the cup quarter final. We even nearly had a full squad to choose from with only top ski girl Ash missing due to ski knee!!
With returning players from injury it was a hard task to pick a starting 11, but decisions have to made and we went with the following
Our starting 11 – Sizzle, Paige, Shannon, Lauren {C}, Linz – Woody, Westy, AT, Jade - Sam, Zoe – Subs Ruby, Lou, Cory, Stuts.
A resounding victory today in only our third game since the end of November. Having drawn our first game against Rugby back in September I was not expecting the game to turn out as it did. Resulting in an 8 goal win.
We had a nice chat pre match and went about the game as I wanted, taking the game straight to rugby and looking for an early goal we missed an early chance to go ahead but did take the lead after 10 mins when MIGHTY ZO put our first one in. this settled us and we took a stranglehold on the game with further goals from WOODY (15) a nice finish into the corner of the net from the side of the box and JADE (20) sneaking in around the back to finish well. Rugby were as always a difficult side to play against and were looking to score themselves and did have some nice build ups but our defence were coping well but had to be on their toes.
A couple of changes were made with both strikers coming off to be replaced Ruby and the long awaited reappearance of Stuts up front. Nothing altered and we were still dominant and had further chances to extend our lead but had to wait till 5 mins before half time when RUBY made it 4-0 at the break.
A couple of changes were made at H/T with Cory and Lou coming on for Paige and Westy. It took us 10 mins to settle after half time and Rugby were again trying to press and get back into the game we again held firm and managed a fifth in the 50min to really finish the game off again the MIGHTY ZO on hand to convert after some super link up play from the right wing. It was mainly all us now and we did create and miss a few chances but more goals looked inventible and LOU made it 6 in the 60min with a shot from the edge of the box which looped over the keepers head. Changes were now being made more regularly to try and give all of the girls some minutes in their legs and then came the most momentous moment in the match with a stunning goal from LINDSAY CLARK
No you did read that right, yes LINDSAY CLARK who scored her first goal for the team in her 9500 appearance. A rocket propelled shot from 20 yards which went in like a cannonball. I was told this as unfortunately I was treating Miss McGuire at the time on her injured foot. I was truly gutted to miss my other daughter's first goal. Well done Linz!!
The game was rounded off with 5 to go when the returning STUTS who looked as if she had never been away fired home from just inside the box to make it 8-0.
It was a good performance for the girls today and everybody got a decent run out and credit to all on their individual and team performance.
To Rugby's credit they never gave up trying and did play some good football, and should be proud of the way that they played the game and conducted themselves. Well played to all and good luck for the remainder of the season.
In summing up we were just a bit stronger on the day and scored goals at good times during the game. Well played to both sides.
GOALS – Zoe ( 10 & 50) Woody 15, Jade 20, Ruby 35, Lou 60, LINZ (honest 70) Stuts 75
MOM – AIMEE WOOD & MASHER MCQUIRE, but to be honest all were worth a shout but Woody and Shannon brought me a creame egg so they get the nod.
Many thanks to the old trout again.
Many thanks to all of our parents for their support.
And many many thanks to Jamie for his help again stepping in at the last minute after our ref had to cancel.
Leicester City Ladies 3 - 4 Coventry City Girls
Friendly 24/1/10
With no league game planed we travelled over to Leicester City ladies to play the excellent U15 side.
Today's team: Westy, Paige, Ash, Lauren, Shannon – AT, Jade, Woody – Sam, Ruby, Zoe – Cory, Lou.
A friendly game today to get some mileage into the girls legs, a worthwhile exercise if not a performance.
We struggled to string passes together and our positional sense was poor on the day, but at least we stuck to our task and came away with a positive result against a good side that did ask a few questions of us and can consider themselves unlucky to have lost the game.
You always learn something from the team and players from every game and today was no exception. Let's hope we all benefit from today's game as that was what the idea was.
Many thanks to Roger and all at Leicester
Well done to our girls, the game will have done you the world of good and I am sure your aware we are a lot better than that performance, it was tool to get you fitter and will stand you in good stead for weds!!
Many thanks to all of our parents for the offer of lifts and for your support once again.
For the record – the scoring went as follows (Cov first) 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 4-2, and 4-3.
Goals, Sam 20, Zoe 34, Pooley 60, AT 66
MOM – McNulty And McGuire the new Terry and Ferdinand !!
Caterpillar 1 - 3 Coventry City Girls
League 17/1/10
The Dirty Dozen Plus One
After the mid-winter break for games and training it was back to the grindstone for the girls with our first game of the New Year away to caterpillar girls, a tough first game back.
After our cross border checks and a telling off from the security officer at the caterpillar factory we went with the following team from again a short squad.
Sofia, Paige, Ash, Linz, Lauren – Westy, Lou AT, Woody – Zoe, Sam – subs Shannon and Jade
Having hardly kicked a ball for over a month it was difficult to gauge how both teams would do, so it was a surprise when the game started off at such a high tempo with both sides looking to gain an early advantage. For the first 10 mins either side could have taken the lead but both keepers were in inspired form and it was hairy scary stuff at times. We managed to settle and started to put Cat under a bit of pressure and we hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions, the first goal was always going to be important and it fell to us with SAM finishing well from within the penalty area. This was the start of a purple patch for us and we really started to get at Cat with some decent football. Chances were coming and going but a second looked on the cards and WOODY slipped in from the back unmarked to take number 2. A third quickly followed with SAM again finishing fantastically firing home from the edge of the box. It was good play from us now and on another day we could have had a couple more but some excellent defending and keeping from Cat prevented us from adding to the score line and with our defence keeping the cat attacks at bay we went in 3-0 up at the break.
The second half was a different affair with Cat intent on having a real go at pulling the game around. The half time break had taken our momentum away from us and it was now a battle with both sides again having a real go. Cat started to get the better of the game and were putting us under a fair bit of pressure but we were defending well if not a little deep and Sofia in goal was looking a class act so it was always going to be difficult to score 3 goals but credit where its due Cat were giving it their best shot and the game was getting harder and harder with tired legs a plenty. We did have a few chances to finish the game but some super saves from the cat keeper kept them in it and they did get a deserved goal about 10mins from time with a good finish from the six yard box from a good cross out wide. It was kitchen sink time now and even the cat keeper was up in our box trying to do a Peter Schmeichel on us, then got a telling off for not getting back to goal in time!!, but it stayed at 3-1 and in my opinion a deserved victory for our girls, but we were made to work very hard for it and Cat were excellent in the second half.
The game was a credit to both sides who having not played or trained for a few weeks gave it their all on a heavy pitch which made those legs very tired, a very good comeback from Cat who made a real fist of it and were a credit to Paul and all at Caterpillar Girls FC
Well played to each and every member of our squad of 13 today, it was a terrific start to the New Year and a great result against a very good side.
Many thanks – to all of the parents for their support and offering lifts etc to the girls. Thanks also to JW for running the line etc.
Goals –
MOM a double whammy of SAM WALKER & AIMEE WOOD, excellent play from both and outstanding work-rate. Also a special mention for the world's greatest keeper who played a huge part in our victory.

League 13/12/09
Brewers fayre
Now I am partial to the odd pint of brew X1 so while today's trip to the brewing capital of the country was not for a pint of best bitter, it was to try and guide our girls through an always tough game against our old friends and rivals TS Sports. I am glad to say it was mission accomplished and tasted just as nice as a pint of Tetley's (bitter not tea). Still missing big players we went with the following team.
Sizzle, Shannon, Paige, Linz, Lauren - Woody, AT, Lou, Westy ( C ) –Zoe, Sam - Subs Cory n Ash
The usual hard fought encounter with a TS side that somehow are nearer the bottom of the league rather than the top not that I see that lasting much longer. A chilly but lovely morning we started playing into the low sun which was not easy to defend against but from the start we looked reasonably organised with injury and illness still affecting the squad we had to make a few changes of positions but everybody settled well and we were the stronger side in the first 20 or so minutes, Woody was unlucky with one shot dipping over and then Samuel sent in a thunderbolt which hit the underside of the bar and was a did it or did it not cross the line scenario, it was impossible for the ref to call it so on we played. It was by no means all us though, with TS moving the ball about well and putting us under on a few occasions. We did try to overplay at the back on a few occasions which did not help but this was soon sorted.
We took the lead after about 25mins when WESTY rode a couple of challenges in the box and managed to prod home to open her account up for the season. This seemed to galvanise TS who upped their tempo and started to look threatening Paige came off for Ash but TS were starting to win more possession now and we had to defend well and then the ref did his best to unlock us giving TS a free kick inside our own box penalising Sofia on the 6 second rule and then playing it twice! Very bizarre. TS came close to equalising about 5 mins before the break when a great shot was hit from 20 yards but Sofia was at her sizzling best to make a suburb save down diving down to her left to put the shot around the post, this for me was a turning point in the game and ensured we went in one up at the break.
The second half was a similar story to the first with both sides looking for a goal that would change the game, it was really a roll your sleeves up job with nothing being given by either side they broke we broke but neither goalie was really challenged that much with both defences playing well. TS were giving it a good old go and our defence was stretched on a few occasions but Ash, Shannon, Linz and Lauren were equal to everything in fact Lauren was having in my opinion her best ever game for the club and was immense for us. A bit of a blow with 20 mins still to go when both Lou and AT had to come off injured but the excellent Cory entered the fold and Paige reappeared and with a bit of re-jigging we carried on. We did break well and the link up play up front with Sam the much improved Zoe and with Woody always a threat on the right we did threaten to get the second, ZOE duly delivered the killer second with 10 mins to go when she was put through and from 30 yards carried the ball under pressure entering the box and dispatching the ball low to the keepers right tucking just inside the near post, a very good finish as she normally fires it straight at the keeper!!
The game not over as both sides to their credit kept it going right to the end but excellent defending and battling all over the pitch meant we managed to see the game out. So we won 2-0 but things could have been different if TS had have got one, a few things stand out from the game, a terrific tackle from McNut in the first half, a top drawer save from Sofia just before half time and the effort from the girls when needed was excellent. Everybody played their part today which brought us 3 excellent points against as side that are a threat to anybody with some very good players. A few players had to adapt to different positions today and we had to adapt a few times during the game so huge credit to all for their efforts.
Well done to all at TS Sports who on another day if they had put one in who knows?
Well done to ALL of our girls I was really pleased with everybody today and proud of you for the way you fought and battled away when up against. You showed great honesty, discipline and determination throughout and over the course of the game you deserved your win
Some very good performances all over the pitch well done to all.
Goals- AMY WEST 25 – ZOE PITTAWAY 70
MOM – LAUREN MCNULTY a suburb display of defending and leadership, with out doubt her best ever performance
Many tanks to all of the parents for their kind offers of lifts for the girls and getting them home safely, it's very much appreciated and for your terrific support also.
Coventry City Girls 6 - 0 Oadby Owls
Friendly 29/11/09
A cold grey day and performance!!
Today's team for the visit of Oadby Owls.
Sofia, Paige, Cory, Westy ( C ) Lauren – Woody, AT, Lou, Shannon – Zoe, Ruby. Subs – Sam, Jade, Ash.
Another short squad, with big players still missing and illness / lack of training / match practice still affecting some of the girls we had to endure a hard slog against a gallant and somewhat unfortunate Oadby Owls side who started with ten players and ended up with nine, but who deserve massive credit for the way they kept going and should be proud of the way they played.
In short this was a disjointed and poor performance from our girls, our football or lack of it was a real disappointment, yes some of us are short of match practice etc, but also some of us are not and you would never tell who was who if you know what I mean, our passing and use of the ball was atrocious and with the greatest of respect to Oadby a better side on the day would have turned us over.
Slowly but surely girls are starting to return to fitness and hopefully soon we will have a full squad of fit and healthy players, everybody wants to start the game and competition will be fierce everybody will need to step it up a bit if they want a starting place, we had a good chance to play football today and do the things we ask of you, for a variety of reasons this did not happen, we will need to be better in the coming weeks, remember football is played in your head as much as your feet………..THINK!!
Some bright moments too though, a nice clean sheet, with some excellent decision making by Sofia, a couple of very good goals (especially the last one) and Woody who notched her second hat-trick of the season to cement her lead at the top of the leading goal scorers chart
Goals – Woody (30, 55, 73) AT (36) Ruby (65) and the goal of the game a typical 35yard screamer from Paige (78)
Well played and well done to everybody involved with the owls, you done yourselves proud.
Well done to our girls, in summing up it was a fairly poor display, but we done what had to be done, but improvement is needed.
Many thanks, to Jamie for refereeing the game, after his Saturday night exploits; he nearly got the MOM award.
Thanks also to my right hand girl for her help with the corner flags, cones, etc, etc
Many thanks to all of the parents for their support.
MOM – AIMEE WOOD, great feet, and some top finishing.

The Dirty Dozen
As we left our house in the middle of our street it was raining cats and dogs and seemed pure madness to be going out to play the beautiful game, it must be love.
Yet another Sunday with a depleted squad we only had the dirty dozen to try and force a result.
Today's team for a tough game against a rather robust Loughborough Lions, sorry foxes side.
Sizzle, Peege, Jesus, McNut ( C ) , Clarky, - Woody, Masher, AT, Loops – Fool, Uncle Sam – Sub Mouse
With illness and injury ravaging the squad this was going to be a tough ask with 2 of the squad of 12 ill but bravely soldering on this was a suck it and see type of game……… was this one step beyond them?
NO to my girl's enormous credit they battled till the end and came out deserved winners in what was a hard physical game against a side that were not afraid to put it about. Both sides were committed to the end in an absorbing contest. We got off to a great start when we went 1-0 up after 8 mins when SAM after being put through by Lou still had a lot to do beating two players before firing in from about 10 yards, a top finish again. The game was as tight as Jamie Walkers wallet and both sides were trying to force the issue but neither keeper was overly troubled and although a bit panicky occasionally at the back we defended the lead well. The off colour (pale) Shannon came off and the suburb Jade went on in her place. Both teams kept probing but the score stayed 1-0 at H/T
By now the weather had brightened up and there was no need for baggy trousers, but could we see the game out or even push on and try to get it finished which were the instructions. We started well again trying to force the issue but were undone when 10 mins into the half Sam went down with a bad ankle injury whilst the game was still being played, the game could of and probably should have been stopped but they played on and we stopped
thinking the game would be stopped it didn’t and the game was now level. A harsh lesson learnt but if that had been us the ball would have been put out, it was disappointing. Sam had to come off and pale face
The defence was now immense and with help from all over the pitch we defended when we had to and on the counter we were unlucky not to finish the game off when woody hit the bar. Loughborough were not giving up the ghost and kept coming at us but to a girl we battled away and gave as good as what we got. If anyone was going to score again it looked as if it would be us. The last few minutes were hardly a house of fun and I nearly had a cardiac arrest on a couple of occasions but we took that one step beyond and came out of the game with an excellent 3 points in the circumstances.
I give the girls stick when they could do better, but on this occasion I could have no complaints, they done everything I asked of them and in some cases more. As in terms of the players who we had missing and injury and illness affecting the girls we did have, this was the most satisfying result of the season for me.
Well done to Loughborough – a good side who made a real game of it.
Well done to all of our girls – you were fantastic and are deserving of the highest praise.
Well done and thanks to
Many thanks to my right hand girl for all of her help again – pity her eyesight is on the wane.
Many thanks to all of our parents for their great support, especially to Ivor Stutins (thanks for coming over Ivor)

Sunshine on a Rainy Day
Today's team, Sizzle, Paige, Lauren, Westy ( C ) Linz – Woody, Ash, Lou, Sam – AT, Ruby – sub Cory
With a depleted squad again we travelled down the A14 to a warm welcome from Harborough Town
Who as usual made for a difficult game. Our results lately have been indifferent to say the least and we needed 3 points today, we can work it out we said.
After sheltering from the wind and rain till 10mins before kick off we started off with the wind behind our backs and looking to take advantage of the conditions. Neither side really got a foothold in the first few minutes and after only 10 mins we decided to switch AT and Sam, this was purely tactical and paid dividends 5 mins later when SAM opened the scoring rifling home from 10 yards out after a goalmouth scramble. We settled after this and produced some decent stuff in what was a well matched game we came closest to scoring again but some good defending from Harborough kept us at bay, indeed Harborough came closest to the next goal when Sizzle, hade a save from a free kick which then dropped to the Harborough player who prodded for goal only for Siz to again make a great recovery save. Cory was now on for the excellent Ash and we managed a much needed second goal about 5 mins before the break when the fox in the box WOODY stabbed home from another goalmouth scramble and gave us a deserved half time 2-0 lead and a bit of breathing space.
We needed to start the second half well and repel the expected charge from Harborough. We did start well in the second half and managed to contain Harborough the game being mainly played in the middle third of the field which of course suited us, we pushed for a third hoping to take the game away from them and luckily for us this we did in the 55min when, SAM was put through and sent an exocet into the roof of the net from the edge of the box a fantastic strike. This we hoped would kill them off but credit to them they are made of stern stuff and came back at us and had there best spell of the game putting us under pressure whilst we managed to contain them we did go into hot potato syndrome for a short period and it took a fine save from Sizzle saving at the feet to keep it at 3-0. a couple of changes were made with minor knocks from some stiff challenges and people having to make positional changes but we re-grouped well and started to put them back under a bit of pressure without really looking like scoring again, it was Harborough who came closest when given a free kick right at the edge of the box from a Sizzle car crash collision of a tackle for which the repercussions could have been worse had the ref not been so lenient. The ball just going over the bar from the free kick.
This apart we seen the game out well and let it be 3-0 so we
The rain had now passed by so the yellow submarine was not needed.
Many thanks to Harborough Town FC, Nigel and the girls of Harborough for a warm welcome, and in poor conditions a hard and fair game, good luck for the season and well done to all.
Well done to all of our girls on an improved performance, well done to Sam on her 2 goal debut, thanks to all of our parents for their support and in offering lifts to the girls and thanks also to

That's Better!
With our league game being cancelled we took the opportunity to have a friendly game against Humberstone rangers from the U18 league.
With unavailability injury and illness, affecting the side once again we started with the following.
Sizzle, Paige, Westy ( C ) Lauren, Ash – Shannon,
Today was not about a result but more to do with settling things down and sorting out a performance.
We played a lot better today even with a few of the girls struggling with injuries and illness. We approached the game with a bit more resolve and purpose and looked a lot better for it. We all shook up and got ready to roll with it, the Oasis of the sky blue girls was a bit better on the blue eyes.
The game opened up from the start and WOODY notched us 1-0 up in the 12minute finishing well after
being put through by Ruby. This settled us down and we started to pass and move a lot better and had numerous chances to have gone 4 goals up put our finishing was poor with misplaced shots and keeper target practice keeping it at 1-0. Humberstone were difficult opponents and made us pay with a goal in the 32 minute, a wonderful individual effort with the player twisting and turning the fullback before unleashing a great shot from 18 yards that flew into the net, a top goal. HT – 1-1
Humberstone came out of the blocks sharply in the 2nd half and had us under pressure for a good 10mins and hot potato syndrome was becoming evident. Eventually we weathered the storm and started to play again and created a few half chances before RUBY made it 2-1 in the 60 min a good finish in the bottom corner with some great link up play all over the park. This did settle us down a bit and we started to pass the ball a lot better and took the game to Humberstone but they were sharp on the break on Sizzle was called upon on a few occasions with some sharp goalkeeping holding Humberstone at bay. We needed a 3rd to kill it off and RUBY duly delivered with ten to go when powering in from 10 yards, finishing like we have told her not to! The game petered out from here and it ended at 3-1, whilst not a champagne supernova performance this was a lot better than in previous weeks and was one step beyond what we have been playing, it has been madness the way we have been performing but hopefully we have turned a different corner.
This was a better team performance and individually some players did improve from previous week, so hopefully there will be more to come.
Thanks to the girls who played through the pain and illness barrier it's appreciated, you got the result you deserved, well done to all of the girls on a much improved performance.
Many thanks, to Paul Towers, his Humberstone girls and parents on coming over and playing a good game in a great sprit with great support. All the best for the season and good luck from all of us at Coventry City Girls.
Thanks also, to

BEDLAM AT BEDROCK!!
A short visit to Beduff today resulted in a trouncing for the girls. A damp drizzly day with a damp drizzly performance!!
Today's team: Sofia, Cory, Ash, Lauren, Westy – Woody, AT, Shannon, Stuts – Zoe, Ruby – Subs Paige, Louise
After a hard couple of weeks result wise today got no better as in terms of the score. Whilst we competed better our football or lack of it was jumped on with both feet by a Bedworth side who clearly wanted a win. For anybody who watched the game and has seen us play you would expect better, that is taking nothing away from a strong Bedworth side that warranted their win. We never strung two passes together all game and we never really got going we did have a few attempts on goal in the first half and on another day if one of these had gone in then who knows, but it was not anywhere enough to be honest.
Bedworth played an excellent game and they never cave us chance to settle but when we did get the ball we never used it and gave it away constantly rushing our passes and not even thinking about slowing the game down the ball was obviously very hot, at the end of the day the better side won and won well, but we kept shooting ourselves in the foot with basic errors costing us goals that we should of dealt with better, but everybody is prone to making mistakes myself included and you try to make up for them, this we will all need to do.
At the moment we look a pale shadow of the side that I know and the girls know we can be, and we are going through a difficult spell but we need to turn things around and we will, on any given day we are as good as anybody in the league and we will try to overcome our current difficulties, there is enough quality in the team to do this and this we will. I suppose it’s a compliment that sides seem to be raising their game against us this season and it's something we need to deal with better. You need to be pragmatic in defeat and perhaps not overreact at the end of the game, its something I am trying to learn but lets be honest about it, as well as Bedworth played we contributed to our own downfall and we need to be a lot smarter than that, myself included.
Everybody was aware of where we had gone wrong today and it’s a case of picking up the pieces of the jigsaw and putting them back together. Time will tell.
Well played to everybody at Bedworth, it's nice to see it meant something to you and you deserved your victory
enjoy it as you rightfully should, well done especially to Emily Aston who was part of us until crossing the divide and no Simon it was never a penalty and no you should of not won by double figures calm down old son your getting a bit excited it’s a long season with many twists and turns, see you at Wolston.
Well done girls – not our day today and we got what we deserved. We need to back ourselves up now, start having some faith and belief, it will come good.
Thanks to the parents for their continued support

Groundhog Day
Today's team for our fixture against our friends from Bardon Hill.
Sofia, Paige, Lauren, Ash, Linz – Woody, Lou, AT, Jade – Ruby, Zoe, Subs Cory, Shannon.
For today's report read the Asfordby report, from last week. This week was actually worse than last week.
An excellent Bardon side were quicker to every ball, contested every ball better and never stopped working from the first to the last minute. Thus we were outplayed and outfought. The result was an injustice to Bardon
who should have won by more.
Too few players again never performed to the standards that they undoubtedly have, and this will need to be addressed. We all need to take responsibility for our performances, and I include myself in that.
Its time for everybody to step up to the mark.
For the record Bardon scored midway through the second half and although we had a go in the last 5 minutes hitting the post etc it was to little to late.
Well played to Bardon a deserved victory, with an excellent display.
MOM – SIZZLING SOFIA, probably the world's greatest keeper, and again one of only a few who can hold
their heads up high.
Thanks to Rob for the help with the nets, Jamie for his running of the line and input, and to the parents for their support of the girls.
Asfordby Amateurs 1 - 1 Coventry City Girls
League 27/9/09
Today's starting 11 – Sofia, Lindsay, Lauren, Westy ( C ) Ash – Jade, Woody, Lou, AT – Zoe, Stuts. Subs – Paige, Ruby, Cory, Shannon.
Our first full squad of the season and our worst performance for some time. After a great victory last week we must have turned up thinking that this would be easy, and having pre warned the girls before the game that this would be a harder game, they obviously thought different.
A woeful performance today against a Asfordby side today who simply worked harder than we did and wanted it lot more than some of our girls. We were second to the first ball and not even second to the second ball, a total lack of reaction to 90% of any loose ball is not acceptable.
We had little or no tempo to our game and had a general lack of urgency throughout the game. The inconsistency in our game is alarming and we need to buck up our ideas sharpish. The support play today was pants and things will need to improve quickly all over the pitch based on today's performance.
We can take no positives from today's performance and only a few of the girls can be happy with their individual performance. A few players are in a comfort Zone and seem to think that they just need to turn up to play; well I don’t think so, they may well be changes next week. People need to realise that it is a privilege to be picked in the starting eleven and not a god given right.
For the record, we went 1-0 up 17 mins into the second half when ZOE scored from close range and had enough chances to have sealed the game after that, unfortunately we didn’t and as so often happens we conceded from a corner with 5 to go.
Well played to Asfordby on a good performance you deserved your point for a never say die attitude and you stuck to your task well it's a lesson to be learnt for any side, Attitudes can count for an awful lot.
Many thanks to Ivor, Sue, Rob, and Mick for fitting the girls in and getting them home, it's appreciated by myself, and thanks to all of the parents for there support.

Ill Will Do For Me!!
With a few injuries and a bit of illness today was going to a test against our friends from TS Sports who are always a tough team to play against, our first league game at our new home of Wolston and plenty of parking places for everybody!!. Today's team.
Sizzle, Lauren, Ash, Westy (C ) Hero – Woody, AT, Jade – Stuts, Mighty Zo. Subs Cory, Masher.
A big effort was needed today from everybody, with some of the girls struggling with injuries and the Waltzer at the fair on sat night still churning away at Zoe's tummy we went into the game not knowing what to expect, hard work these games always are and we needed an 80 minute performance not the usual 40!! Well blow my cotton socks off every girl to a man well woman stood up to the challenge and stepped up to the mark, a cagey start as usual with both sides looking for an early score but with both defences on top it was proving hard to score. We had a couple of chances that perhaps we could of done better with but TS were also getting forward and Sofia had to be smart off her line on a few occasions to keep the stalemate. We were using the flanks a lot better today and with Woody putting in some excellent balls into the box, and with Jade covering well getting forward and back this was working well. 0-0 at half time and the game evenly poised.
It was stressed at half time, that we needed to get off to a good start in the 2nd half and not do our usual have a kip for 10 mins start, to win this everybody needed to be tuned in and ready to wake me up before you go go, we really needed some Wham. With the injured girls saying give me five more minutes and I may need to come off I quickly forgot to start my watch.
Good job to, Westy alongside Linz, Ash and Lozzo were immense at the back. The waltzer queen and tail back actually worked harder and were a constant threat, and probing away in CM were At and Lou, we started to get on top now and a gaol was looking likely but good goalkeeping and defending was keeping us at bay, indeed TS came the closest to breaking the deadlock when a venomous shot from 25 yards was superbly tipped around the post by Sizzle, it was a top class save and the was one of two turning points in the game, the other being a penalty decision 5 minutes later which went our way, when a TS striker went down under a challenge. I would not have been surprised if it had been given but the ref thought differently and waved play on. We took the lead midway through the half when WOODY was put through on the right and smacked a glorious shot high above the keeper and into the roof of the net. We just about deserved the lead. We again took the game to TS and were looking the more likely to score again and we did with 17 to go, STUTS gathered the ball on the left and from fully 30 yards hit an absolute screamer into the roof of the net, a fantastic strike at any standard of football, she came off soon after with her dodgy back and Masher went on to replace her covering a lot of ground and providing a bit of stiffness where needed. Cory came on with about 7 to go for the brilliant Ash and slotted in lovely at full back, it was a case of trying to see the game out now as TS never give up and we were happy to try and contain the game. A few moments of panic and overplay but overall we seen the game out well from here and with TS down to 10 this helped us. All in all a good victory against a good side who never make it easy for you. TS are a well organised side who are as committed as ever and again will do well this season. As for us considering we had a few struggling with various ailments I was over the moon, hats off to Zoe, Stuts and Westy they done a lit more than I was even prepared to ask of them, great stuff.
Well played to TS on a good game played in a great sprit – well done to all.
We deserved our win over the 80 mins.
Well played to ALL of our girls, I asked questions you provided the answers, can't ask for more than that!!
Thanks to Mick Williams for helping with the nets, and thanks to all of our parents for their great support.

A Game of Two Halves
Today's team for our trip to our Warwickshire neighbours Rugby Town.
Sizzle, Paige, Linz, Lozzo, Masher – AT, Ash, Woody, Lou – Zo, Stuts. Subs Cory, Jade.
A great set up and a lovely pitch on a nice September morning just right for a game of footie. We started off brightly and scored an early goal when STUTS put one away smartly after a good build up. we did not look exactly on fire and we were a bit flat footed at times but were still the better side as the game wore on, we scored again midway through the half when the MIGHTY ZO opened up her account for the season again another good finish into the bottom corner of the net from the right hand side of the box. We were in control and were playing quite well but the urgency was still not what it could have been, Rugby looked dangerous going forward and we were a bit shaky here and there but finished the half at 2-0 and it could have been more.
Now some of the girls must of gone up the city on Saturday as we produced a carbon copy of the city's abject second half performance, I am tending to think that half time talks are a waste of time as having told the girls what to expect and that we would need to up our tempo and play with more urgency we done the opposite and played down tempo. Just like Bristol did on sat at the Ricoh, Rugby> came out and took the game to us straight away. We were slow bordering comatose coming out of the blocks and far to many players went missing
We were not alive and kicking and simple minds, and thinking had gone. Rugby were by far the better side now and were pressing hard. They scored midway through the half with a header from a corner at the near post
and with their tails up it had became a slog for us. We were slow to react to most things and were giving the ball away in silly areas. They equalised with about 10 to go (I think) again a corner was not dealt with and after a scramble the ball was forced home. There only looked one winner now but we actually had the best chance of securing the win when we should have scored with 5 to go but shot straight at the keeper going for power rather than placement. The game ended up all square which was probably a fair reflection on the day.
To Rugby's credit they upped their game and played really well in the second half, where as we had too many girls who needed to show a bit more hungry like the wolf, but duran duran the second half we lacked bite and urgency, our decision making was poor and a bit more thought was needed.
Well done to Rugby on a good fair game, good luck for the season.
Girls a bit more thought and oomph is needed?? You can never relax during a game as the game doesn't stop!!
This does not apply to the first half but we have to play for two half's not one!
Many thanks to our parents etc for their great support once again.
MOM – Lippy Lou!!
Oadby Owls 1 - 5 Coventry City Girls
Friendly 6/9/09
Here we go again, another 9 months of cross border checks, hurt, anguish, and a bit of fun to…….hopefully.
Today's team – Sizzle, Paige, Linz, Westy (C) McNut - Woody, Lou, Ash, AT – Mighty Zo, Stuts sub Ruby.
Passports approved and into darkest Woolyshire, where our hosts Oadby Owls awaited us. After a short diversion we arrived to a full car park with greedy parents taking up all of the spaces in the car park, surely a space could have been left for the manager and his mountain of gear!! Never mind plenty of spaces half a mile away!!. A steady warm up and let battle commence. A cagey start and plenty of nerves but we started to settle and after 10 mins took the lead when ace poacher WOODY steered one in from an excellent Mighty Zo corner.
A rather physical Owls outfit were not afraid to put their foot in and soon after we lost our captain and talisman
Westy with a injured foot, sore it looked to! A reshuffle and as we only had 12 that was it for the game Ruby came on to make her debut and slotted in nicely up front. We kept the pressure on and this paid dividends as we again put one away with WOODY again finishing well to put us in command. The defence of Sizzle, Paige, Linz, Lauren and Ash were solid and with a midfield quartet of Stuts, Lou, AT, and Woody using the ball well we had numerous chances to go further ahead , both Zoe and Ruby could of added more but snatched efforts and good keeping kept us out. We went 3-0 up in the 34 minute when some brilliant and unselfish play from Zoe played in WOODY who finished well and gained a first half hat trick. A good half had by all of the girls.
HT – Wood City 3 -0 Oadby Owls
The emphasis at half time was nothing needed changing the girls were enjoying it and we wanted to keep pushing on, and I stressed that above all I wanted a clean sheet we must not concede!!!
One minute into the restart and its 3-1! A sloppy piece of defending and we concede, it’s a mad world and my tears for fears surfaced and volcano head done the rest, poor old ????? had it large but to her great credit and some solid support from her teammates put it behind her and recovered well from her mistake to play a top game. Oadby came at us well and we lost a bit of shape for ten minutes and we needed another gaol to settle us down a bit, this arrived 15 mins in when STUTS opened up her account for the season with a well worked goal flashing home past the keeper after cutting in from the left. We started to settle again and Zo was pulled off to rest her dodgy foot that she has had for 3 years but the momentum was back with us now and we again started to get the better of Oadby. Some strong tackles were flying in from the owls and they were not taking any prisoners
But the girls kept their discipline and it was from a poor challenge on AT that we got another, after dusting herself off the girl AT strode up and from 22yards (metres if your under 20) struck a suburb effort into the top right hand corner a quality strike. Zo back on and we had further chances to increase our lead but the keeper was in inspired form and with the woodwork also being rattled the goal led a charmed life. Sizzle made one top save at the feet of an Oadby striker and to their credit they never stopped working and were committed to the last.
We again lost Zoe and then AT and finished with 9 players but nobody moaned not even me and to be fair to the ref she was on the ball.
We scored a late 6th when Ruby( having missed a few) finally struck one in after chasing a lost cause she hassled the defender recovered the ball and finished well in the bottom corner a richly deserved goal.
All in all a good start against an Oadby side that are nobody's mugs, it was a good all round team achievement
And the girls were pleased with how it went and so were dumb and dumber.
Well done to a brave oadby side and well done to our girls, a good performance both individually and as a team.
Many thanks to the travelling parents for their great support and for offering lifts etc to some of the girls, pity you gobbled up all of the spaces in the car park!!!
MOM – could have been anybody really, but will go with a double whammy of WOODY and AT.
Here's to you Mr Robinson and hello to Kettering Generals FC and Mr Baskerville!!
