The club has recently received a donation of kit from McDonalds.  The kit was funded by the McDonalds at Walsgrave and it includes footballs, hurdles and ladders.  Pictured below with our under 10 team is  Jason War from McDonalds.  Also in the picture are the under 10 management duo of Kerry Williamson and Jason Steele.

 

All players are reminded that training will restart on Wednesday 28th July at 6.00pm at Bablake Playing Fields on the grass.

Thank you to all who attended the 3^rd golf event at Whitefield’s golf club on Friday 18^th June. Thank you to all the sponsors involved and all who gave their time up to ensure a great day and night was had by all. In total we raised just under £1000.00 which in the present climate we are very pleased with. Results in the golf were:

3^rd place: Nigel Reynolds scoring 35 points

With Thursday’s match with Dudley being pivotal to the destiny of The West Midlands Division 1 South Title, the 1^st Team would welcome your support.

Both teams are in good form at the moment and the game should prove to be an epic tussle.

Coventry are in the middle of a spell of 8 games in 4 weeks. They went into the final month knowing that nothing less than 22 out of a possible 24 points would suffice if they are to get their hands on a second league title in as many seasons. So far, they have managed 13 out of 15, but this game is by far the biggest of them all as they travel to the current pole sitters knowing that anything but 3 points will hand the crown to the home side.

The Sky Blues have already beaten Dudley twice this term, once in the league and once after a penalty shoot out on their way to winning The League Cup. But this will only serve to strengthen Dudley’s ambition to take three points from the evening.

Any support for The Ladies would be most welcome on the night. Kick off at Dudley is 7.45pm.

After battling it out in live heats across the country, Emily Burns from the Under 16 A team has just made it through to the National Grand Final of Live and Unsigned! And she is now getting set to take to the stage at the IndigO2 in London on 10th July!

After initially auditioning against thousands of other acts across the UK and impressing the judging panel with their originality, she went on to perform live on stage at the Midlands Final on 8th May at the Corn Exchange, Bedford. She dazzled the crowd with her winning performance and is now set to perform at the Grand Final. The judges giving her the following comments -"amazing and could still be better" and "a bright future ahead of her".

Emily is hoping for all the regional support possible to be crowned the UK's best Live and Unsigned act. There is again a bus to the O2, times to be confirmed, but leaving Rugby at approximately 11.00 am and returning at approximately 1.00am on the Sunday morning. The tickets are £16.00 each and the bus will be £4.00 return. It would be great if some of the girls could come along to support Emily. Coventry City Girls Under 16A player Emily Burns has just made it through the Regional Finals and is now at the final stage of Live and Unsigned! She will now be performing for a place at the Live and Unsigned National Grand Final.

Emily's Area final is next Saturday 8 May at The Corn Exchange, St Paul's Square, Bedford MK40 1SL. It starts at 3.00 pm with doors opening at 2.45. The tickets for the show in Bedford are £7.50.

The tickets for the show in Bedford are £7.50 and Emily will have them at training on Wednesday just in case anyone will be able to come along and support her. Obviously, the more people she has cheering for her the better! If she gets through this round she'll perform at the O2 Arena in London on 10 July.  If you want to support Emily this Saturday, there is a bus going from Rugby leaving at 1.00pm for £5.00 return, and it will get back to Rugby about 6.30 pm.

Some of the biggest names in the industry will be judging the competition. This years judges include the legendary Noddy Holder, Radio 1’s Greg James, Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale, Urban DJ, Presenter and Radio 1’s Ras Kwame, BBC Introducing’s Bethan Elfyn, TV presenter Gail Porter, legendary drummer Darren Ashford who’s played with the likes of The Backstreet Boys, Black Eyed Peas and Lionel Richie, and record producer Steve Lyon, who will all be casting their eye over the unsigned talent.

Live and Unsigned is the biggest original music competition in the UK for unsigned bands and artists. Attracting over 30, 000 entries in the past three years, it’s set itself apart from its predecessors by offering and promoting live, original music. It’s now established as the definitive music competition for original acts and it’s open to all genres of music from Heavy Rock to Rap.

So, what are the acts battling it out for? The chance to play on the main stage of the Live and Unsigned Festival at the 02 in London on 10th July. There’s also plenty of opportunities and awards up for grabs along the way, with a prize pool worth over £75, 000. The overall winner of the competition will be offered a recording and management contract with Future Music with an investment of up to £30, 000 to release their single and they’ll get the opportunity to develop their own clothing brand to sell online and in retail with Extreme State.

The competition provides acts with a host of opportunities to develop and expose their talent. There is an array of free master classes on offer with ICMP including drums, bass, guitar and vocal. The master classes are with some of the best names in the industry including drummer Pat Petrillo who has played with Gloria Gaynor and Patti Lebelle and a bass lesson with Lawrence Cottle who has worked with Eric Clapton and The Bee Gees. These classes will give acts the opportunity to not only learn new techniques and develop their performance skills, but they’ll also have the opportunity to take part in exclusive Q&A sessions. There’s also plenty of exposure opportunities for acts this year, including editorial coverage in some of the UK’s most popular magazines and websites. Other prizes on offer include festival slots, clothing, media exposure, days out and recording time.

There’s over £75, 000 in prizes up for grabs this year so there’s plenty of opportunities for all acts taking part, not just for the winner! The winners of 2010 will be thrust into the media spotlight through television, radio and the press and will be given the opportunity to tour the UK. An act who has caught the judge’s eye this year is Emily Burns from Rugby, now competing in the Area Final. She made it through the Regional Final at Leamington Spa amongst some of the UK’s finest under the radar acts. She is now preparing for the Area Final for the opportunity to progress towards the Live and Unsigned festival at the O2 in London.

In a thrilling Tesco County Cup Final held at Birmingham County Headquarters on Saturday 17 th April, Coventry City Girls emerged as 2-1 winners against Leafield Athletic. This is the first time in the club's history they have won the Girls County Cup. The result means that Coventry City Girls under 16 progress to the next stage of the Tesco Cup competition, the Central Regional Final, to be held at Perry Bar on Sunday 25 April 2010.

Coventry went in the finals as favourites having beating Leafield twice in the league this season but Leafield gaining a victory in the League Cup. Leafield went ahead in the third minute of the game when a early corner came in and was headed home from six yards by Ellis Read . For the reminder of the first half Coventry never got going and went in 1-0 down at half time.

At half time the management team of manger Darryl Fletcher and coaches Alan Beasley and Neil Wilson must have said the right things as Coventry equalised within two minutes of the restart. Helina Phillips got free in the middle of the park and release a shot which the Leafield keeper could not hold onto and Kayleigh Pahnke reacted quickest to bring City level.

From this point on Coventry dominated and the winning goal came direct from a free kick. The free kick taken by Rachel Stanley was too good for the Leafield keeper who could only help the ball into the net.

There was a late scare for Coventry when a soft penalty was conceded but under the pressure, Sam Edgar from Leafield blasted the ball over the bar. This lifted Coventry and they ran out the final few minutes with ease.

Team Manager Darryl Fletcher (and club Chairman) could not hide his delighted at the end of the game. "I am extremely proud of the girls today winning the County Cup today, a first for this club".

Coventry City Girls now play on Sunday along with nine other County Champions at a Tournament in Birmingham . "Next Sunday is a step into the unknown for us" added Darryl, "but I am confident my girls will give a good account for themselves and let's see how well we can do".

The Tesco Cup is part of a wider commitment from Tesco to encourage children to get involved in Sport. Now in its fourth year, Tesco works in conjunction with the FA and local communities to help improve the football skills of young players.

Tesco Cup teams compete in three age groups, U13 boys, U14 girls and U16 girls at County and then Regional level (Area level in Wales) in a bid to become National Champions and ultimately, to represent their country at the UK Final.

The National Winners, in each age category, from England , Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland will play in the UK Final to be held at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton on Sunday 16 th May, 2009 where they will battle to be crowned overall UK Champions.

The 2007/8 season saw the introduction of girls' tournaments resulting in over 3,300 teams across the three age groups taking part. This figure has risen to over 3,600 teams in 2009, with eight English County FAs entering teams for the first time.

Hi football fans,

Lauren, who plays for the U16 A girls team has just got through to the semi-finals of a national beauty pageanty thingy me bob called Teen Queen!! It's all very exciting but she needs your support to have any chance of getting through to the Finals.

In order to get through to the finals she has to get the most votes out of her heat. It seems very unfair I know but that's unfortunately the way it is. To vote all you have to do is text Lauren Kent and send to 84205. It would be fabulous if you can persuade any of your friends to vote for her aswell!! How cheeky am I, but as my daughter has refused to allow me to contact our local paper for them to do an article about her, I have to resort to using other cunning methods of supporting her.

I have attached a document with information about the competition aswell as the photo of Lauren which appears on the Teen Queen website. Lauren hates the photo and admittedly it's not the best photo I've seen of her but I think she still looks beautiful, or am I just being a biased mum? Getting through to the finals would be fantastic but it won't be the end of world if she doesn't. The very fact she has got this far is brilliant and has already given her self-confidence an enormous boost (believe me it needed boosting - her body image has been pretty low for a long time - I've been telling her for years how georgous she looks but she has never believed me. I hope she does now!).
