Under 14 Match Reports
Coventry City Girls 7 - 0 Rubery Ladies
League 17/03/12
Good performance today, we could have had quite a few more goals.
Keeper indecision let Nat in (1-0)
Cookey - steered nice shot wide of keeper (2-0)
Corner, laid back to Paige, crossed back in, and headed in by Chanel (3-0)
Shaz - gambled and ran onto a through ball - excellent finish (4-0)
Robin - best single effort goal I’ve seen this season - a couple of headers followed up with a good run into the box, great finish (5-0)
Superb shot on goal left the keeper rooted to the spot - Catherine (6-0)
Quality cross from Maddie allowed Chanel to fire home the last goal (7-0)
Some solid passes from defence and midfield, allowed us to open up the Rubery team, well done.
Girl of the Match = Sophie (Cookey)
Kewford Eagles South 0 - 2 Coventry City Girls
League 10/03/12
Brilliant game today against Kewford, with the entire game played with passion and determination. It was an important game for us to win as Kewford are doing very well in the top two/three of the league.
Once again our defence was strong and well organised, with Kyra, Amy, Alisha, Sophie & Katie keeping Kewford out. However, when they did get through or create a chance then Dion was there to stop them. She played an outstanding game, with some magnificent saves, excellent catches at full stretch, and some good goal kicks.
We knew before the game that mid-field would need to work hard today and sure enough Catherine, Robin & Maddie stepped up to the plate and delivered a solid performance.
Paige, Nat and Shaz all played their part trying to open up the Kewford defence and a number of chances in the first and second halves just went wide of the post.
The first half ended 0-0 which was a fair reflection of the game, but with two goals from Nat in the second half, we secured the 3 points we came for.
In summary: well done the entire team!
Girl of the Match = Dion
Coventry City Girls 8- 0 Kewford Eagles North
League 03/03/12
What a great game today, a real confidence booster for the Girls. Kewford are mid table and to come away with such a big win was fantastic.
Straight from the kick-off we looked lively and after 10 minutes we were 2-0 up from two good finishes from Nat, the first after a tremendous long shot over the keeper, and the second after a great kick from Dion.
The third goal was a lovely finish by Chanel who got her foot on the end of a nice cross from Paige.
In less than 20 minutes we had our 4th goal after some good passing between Catherine and Paige that set up Nat for her hat-trick.
The first half finished (4-0), and we thoroughly deserved the lead as the whole team were playing really well.
Early in the second half Shaz was unlucky when she hit the post, however she was rewarded for her hard work and spirited runs with another chance which she finished off.
Another great kick from Dion, and a lovely header over the Kewford defence gave Nat her 4th and 5th goals of the game (7-0).
The final goal was scored by one of our top defenders, Kyra (costing her dad £20 – haha) with a header she fired home from Paige’s corner. (8-0).
Great effort by everyone, well done! Thanks to Kewford for a good match.
Girl of the Match = Nat
Coventry City Girls 2- 1 Kewford Eagles South
League 21/1/12
It’s been over a month since our last game and today we played Kewford South who are top of the League and unbeaten in their last 10 games.
We had a few good chances early on and were very unlucky when a tremendous shot bounced off the bar onto the line. However, despite all the good work we just couldn’t find the back of the net and unfortunately after 30minutes a Kewford shot bobbled past Dion to give them the lead. Despite this no one was upset as we were soon back level when Nat scored less than 2 minutes later. We played some wonderful football and passed and moved the ball about really well. Half time finished 1-1.
The 2nd half started at the same fast pace as we had finished the 1st half and a great ball from Paige through to Nat after 10 minutes, gave her a one on one with the keeper which she slotted home. From then on it was a well-balanced game and it was clear that both teams wanted the win.
Throughout the last 5 minutes Kewford mounting some good attacks but the City defence and mid-field held strong to keep them out.
It’s no surprise that Girl of the Match was awarded to the whole team for a great combined effort. Well done.
Thanks to Kewford for a great game.
Coventry City Girls 4 - 2 Bilbrook
League 26/11/11
A great game today against Bilbrook in which all the girls played really well. Sophie Clarke must be thanked for stepping into the keepers role as Dion couldn’t make the game. Sophie managed to pull off some fantastic saves and made some good goal kicks into a strong head wind.
At half time we were 3-1 up, following goals from Catherine, Paige & Nat. The goal we conceded was from a questionable free-kick that was taken well. Unfortunately, it went straight through our defence and Sophie was unable to keep it out.
The second half was evenly matched, albeit there was a lot of pushing and fouls against us that were not given. We clearly frustrated some of their players as they struggled to get through our mid-field and defence.
Two late goals, one from each side concluded a good game. Great result girls, well done.
One point to note: Throughout the game we were caught offside too many times and this is something for the girls upfront to be more aware of when they are playing against teams who push out and don’t defend deep in their own half.
Girl of the Match = Robin
Coventry City Girls 4 - 1 Kewford Eagles North
League 12/11/11
It was always looking like it was going to be a tough game after playing Kewford earlier in the season when they only had 10 players, who all played really well.
However, in the first ten minutes we had loads of chances, but didn’t manage to finish them off. And against the run of play Kewford scored the opener with a goal that trickled past Dion and went in off the post. We equalised very quickly after which seemed only fair, after a fantastic free-kick from Catherine that Paige deflected past their keeper. The rest of the half was evenly balanced with both teams having good chances. Half time 1-1.
Again the second half was quite even until Nat finished off a terrific pass from Paige to fire the ball into the top corner of the net.
Two more good goals from Nat finished a great game. Well done to everyone, there was a lot of desire shown throughout. (our fitness levels seemed to pay off).
Girl of the Match = Sophie Clarke who played a great game.
Thanks to Kewford for a good match.
Erdington Ladies 0 - 7 Coventry City Girls
League 22/10/11
Having played Erdington last week in the Cup, and beating them 7-0, it’s a nice coincidence that in today’s League game we also beat them with the exact same score.
The first half was a bit of a battle, but they never really looked like getting past the defences of Bailey, Kyra, Amy and Alisha. And in contrast we missed quite a few chances created from the excellent work put in by our lively mid-field players.
Two good goals from Nat gave us a 2-0 advantage at half time.
What a good second half! There was some wonderful movement, passes and great vision, rewarded with five more goals.
Within five minutes Paige’s ‘cross’ went straight in over the keepers head – perhaps it was a shot then?
Two minutes later Shaz slotted one wide of the keeper to make it 4-0, then almost straight after kick-off she got her second with a simple tap in from a great cross delivered by Nat.
A quick throw in, with ten or so minutes left to play, allowed Robin to take a cheeky 25 yard shot that soared over the keeper into the top corner. Great goal!
Final goal was well worked between Nat, Chanel & Shaz. It was finally finished off by Shaz after some impressive one-two passes from the girls.
We had full control of the game throughout and worked well for the win.
It’s also worth a mention that both set of girls should be congratulated for playing the game with a good spirit and for not getting mixed up with the Adult antics of last week.
Girl of the Match = Shaz
Coventry City Girls 4 - 1 Derby County
League 8/10/11
We played well today against an organised and capable opponent. However, some excellent football from all the City girls prevented Derby from playing their game. We had the better of them for the whole of the first half with good passing, movement and tackling.
We opened the scoring when Paige delivered a superb cross that the keeper couldn’t hold on to, allowing Nat the chance for a simple nod in. (1-0)
After thirty minutes Nat got her second with a great shot from outside the box that rose above the keepers head and straight into the back of the net. (2-0)
A minute later we hit the post and the rebound went wide to Shaz who crossed it back in, and with the slightest of touches Nat got her hat-trick as the ball went to the side of the keeper. (3-0)
In the second half Derby came out strong and for the first ten to fifteen minutes looked the better team. For their efforts they were rewarded with a well taken goal. (3-1)
However, we battled on and with about 10 minutes to play Paige ran onto a ball through the middle, took one touch around the keeper and scored. (4-1)
Some great defence and midfield work throughout the game – well done girls.
Thanks to Derby for a good game.
Girl of the Match = Kyra
Coventry City Girls 5 - 0 Kewford Eagles North
Cup 1/10/11
Today we played Kewford in the first round of the Cup and you may remember that last year they beat us in the same round. Unfortunately today, due to injuries they could only manage to field ten players.
The game started like all the others we have played this season with some good work throughout the team. And after some early chances from Shaz & Chanel that just went wide, within ten minutes Nat opened the scoring with a well taken goal.
We had loads more scoring chances throughout the first half, but their substitute keeper played really well and managed to keep us out.
In the first few minutes of the second half we got a lucky second goal when the clearance from a Kewford defender hit the back of one of their players and went in. Our third goal was terrific shot from Chanel from a very tight angle.
The heat must have got to everyone mid-way through the second half, because for the next fifteen minutes we played poorly and in a manner that was too relaxed.
We did pick up with the pace in the last ten minutes, and a good advantage played by the ref, allowed Clarkey to carry on her run through the middle and score. To finish off the game Shaz slotted in our fifth after an outstanding move from Catherine.
Good match, but in parts it showed we need to work harder for the whole game. We were perhaps lucky that Kewford only had 10 players!
Thanks to Kewford for a good game.
Girl of the Match = Robin
Coventry City Girls 7 - 0 Sutton Strikes
League 24/9/11
What a great result for us today against Sutton. And if it wasn’t for their Goalkeeper who played really well, we could have had a few more.
We played as a team this week, with all girls moving and passing the ball around. The defence was strong, with Kyra and Amy holding back any attempt through the centre, and with Alisha, Bailey and Clarkey playing well on the sides. (I think I also saw Alisha go over the halfway line!)
Midfield ran the show with Catherine and Cookey helping out up front as well as defending. Also excellent work from Katie & Maddie who stretched their defence and crossed in some good balls.
Fortunately Dion didn’t have much to do today as she was sick, but showed her commitment to the team by turning up to play even though she was ill. Thanks to Clarkey who put the gloves on for the second half and did a good job with the few chances Sutton made.
Seven great goals: Paige’s first of the season, Shaz, Nat (3), Catherine & Robyn’s first after her long run from the middle of our half.
Although outplayed, Sutton never gave up and showed a good fighting spirit to the end.
Girl of the Match = Nat
Kingshurst Sporting 0 - 4 Coventry City Girls
League 17/9/11
Today we played Kinghurst who were not going to be easy opposition looking at last years form. (League winners - lost one game all season). This proved to be the case for the first ten minutes, as the game was quite even with both sides playing well.
However, after thirteen minutes we were one up, following a great corner from Paige that was met with an unstoppable header from Nat.
Less than ten minutes later Chanel got a break-through and with determination she battled through the Kinghurst defence and managed to get our second goal.
Within three minutes Chanel was on a good run again, her shot, which most people thought had gone into the side netting, gave us the 3 goal lead we deserved at half time.
We started the second half with the same passion we had all through the first half and a few minutes in, a gambled run by Chanel paid off, providing her with her first hat-trick of the year. (hopefully more to come?)
In the last ten minutes we made lots of changes allowing Kinghust to get back into the game, but we held on to get our first clean sheet of the season. A great result and a tremendous effort from everyone - Well done.
Thanks to Kingshurst for a good game.
Catherine who moved the ball about fantastically today thoroughly deserved Girl of the Match.
Boldmere Falcons 1 - 3 Coventry City Girls
League 3/9/11
After all of the Summer training, our first test in the League was today at Boldmere. And what a great start to the season it was, with some great 1st half passing and movement off the ball. We really had a good shape to the team.
Within 10 minutes Shaz opened the scoring from a well delivered corner by Paige. Soon after Shaz scored her second after a determined run and excellent finish.
After 20 minutes, Catherine who put in a solid performance today, played a great ball through to Nat, who after several one-on-one attempts against the Boldmere keeper managed to get our 3rd goal.
The first half ended with a brave save from Dion, leaving us 0-3 up at the break.
We came out slowly in the 2nd half and after 2 minutes Boldmere scored from a well delivered corner. Towards the end of the game we were looking tired, but some good defensive work from Amy, Bailey & Clarkey helped keep Boldmere out. Well done to all the girls, keep it up for the rest of the season. Thanks to Boldmere for a good match.
Girl of the Match = Paige
