Under 16 Match Reports
Coventry City Girls 0 - 4 Derby County Ladies
League 10/3/12
Having lost Jodie to an ankle injury in training during the week todays game was always going to be tough. Lozza standing in for Jodie was also struggling with sore a back. Nothing to choose really between the both side as both teams went toe to toe, fast paced, end to end and enjoyable football to watch but unfortunately, for Coventry, Derby were able take advantage of our weakness at the back.
Chasetown Ladies 0 - 3 Coventry City Girls
League 3/3/12
Coventry started the stronger two sides with a more attacking formation creating a number of chances before Ash battled through to get a Goal 9 minutes from the start. Coventry continuing to the attack from the re-start but a resilant Chasetown pressed Coventry at times with some creative football, Coventry scoring their second with strong individual effort from Eryn at 30mins.
Half Time Score: Chasetown Ladies 0 - 2 Coventry City Girls
Again Second half played at a strong pace with Chasetown really digging in defence and midfield led to a more scrappy half with both grinding away trying to find a way through in the end it was our Ash that found the on 60 minutes. Chasetown as always continued to press looking for a goal never let the heads drop but weren't able to breakdown the Coventry defence.
Coventry City Girls 12 - 0 Gornal Girls
Semi Final League Cup 25/2/12
An emphatic first performance from Coventry left Gornal with too much to do in the Second half, all credit to the Gornal girls they never gave up until the final whistle.
Goals for Coventry from Ash, Emily, "Woody" Eryn, Abbie and Charlie B. and had it not been for the Gornal Keeper who had an inspired game denying a number of goal bound shots "Dave" Lauren, Cody, Sophie and Chloe may also of added there names to the scorecard.
Coventry through to face Derby in the Final in May.
Redditch United Girls 0 - 3 Coventry City Girls
League 28/1/12
The game started very even with both Teams playing some nice possession football but without really troubling either goalkeeper. With ten minutes gone Coventry started to dominate the play when they began to create many goal scoring chances for the remainder of the first half, but the Redditch Goalkeeper was playing brilliantly and kept everything out. So half time came and it remained 0-0.
Thinking it maybe one of those games where missed chances would be punished the Coventry girls came out for the second half with a determined attitude and carried on creating goal scoring opportunities. So it was to Coventry’s relief that a five minute spell produced three goals. Chloe started it off on 54 minutes when she finished well at the back post. Then in the 58 minute after a fine passing move Charlie scored from six yards. Straight from the restart Coventry won the ball back, this then produced a chance for Eryn who’s persistent paid off when she finished on 59 minutes making it 3-0. Redditch never gave up playing their football but rarely troubled Lozza in the Coventry goal who was standing in for the resting Jodie
Coventry City Girls 4 - 2 Wednesbury Wildcats
League 21/1/12
An important game for Coventry this week against 2nd in the league Wednesbury having struggled to get back to speed after the Christmas break.
Coventry started strong in the first half creating a number of chances and scoring 3 times before half time with goals from Ash on 10 & 28minutes, Abbie on 21 Mins.
Remembering how the resilient Wednesbury had come back from being 3-1 down at half time to win 4-3 earlier in the season Coventry were determined not to feel that pain again.
Wednesbury came out strong in the second half with a number fast paced attacks from there left wing and were able to breakdown the Coventry defence scoring early in the second half. Coventry responded with a 4th goal from Eryn at 66 mins.
The half continued with some good football from both teams with Wednesbury finding their 2nd with 8 minutes to go during which Coventry Keeper Jodie collided with the goal post and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital with suspected head and neck injuries.
The game restarted with 8 minutes to be played with Lozza blowing the dust off her gloves from last season to replace the injured Jodie.
Both teams finishing off the 80 minutes strongly with Coventry hitting the post and Wednesbury with another strong attack from their left finished with a strong shot straight to the hands of a grateful Loz.
Thankfully following X-rays Jodie was allowed to go home later in the day with bruising and a thumping head ache.
Coventry City Girls 6 - 3 Sutton United Girls
League 7/1/12
The New Year began with a win against a Sutton side that only had the nine players but played with a great attitude and full commitment but were unfortunate to be out scored in the first half by Coventry.
The goals started going in as early as the 2nd minute when Ash finished a well worked move. Sutton equalised with a long range free kick in the 5th minute. Abbie then shot from the edge of the penalty box in the 7th minute to make it 2-1 then in the 14th minute Ash got her second goal, but again Sutton responded in the 16th minute to make it 3-2. The goals dried up and some football was played between the teams, but in the 26th minute Ash scored to complete a very well taken Hat Trick. Another Coventry goal was recorded before half time when in the 32nd minute Eryn scored which was well deserved.
Half Time Score: Coventry City Girls 5 - 2 Sutton United Girls
The second half again started with a quick goal when Coventry got a corner, from the 44th minute corner Abbie headed to net her second goal. With both teams playing some frantic football and attacking each other it was the defenders on both sides who were coming out on top. To Sutton’s credit they never gave up and got their third goal in the 61stminute
Derby County 0 - 1 Coventry City Girls
League 26/11/11
A really pleasing result today a closely fought first half with positive spells of pressure from teams. Coventry keeping there concentration for the full 40 minutes during this encounter having conceded goals in 38 & 40 minutes just a few weeks ago.
Half Time:Derby County 0 - 0 Coventry City Girls
Following the restart it was Derby now playing down hill who started stronger pressurising a number of corners in close succession from Coventry. Coventry weathered the storm defending the corners strongly and began to take the game to Derby and eventually scoring when Sophie battled to win the ball in our own half and picked out a wonderful pass through to Woody who was able to use her pace to get behind the Derby defence and placed the ball in to the far corner @ 54minutes. Coventry continuing to play with confidence pushing forward with a number of strong attacks.
Not taking anything away from Derby they battled hard till the end winning a couple of corners in the last few minutes of the game which could easily have given them a point, thankfully though it was Coventry's day.
Coventry City Girls 2 - 3 Walsall Ladies
League 12/11/11
Disappointing result today truly a game of two halves Coventry the more creative in the first half with goals from Ash and Abbie and possibly could have done better with a number of other chances.
Walsall with a slight change in formation in the second half began to press Coventry and eventually scored from good strike from 25/30 yards Jodie getting finger tips couldn't quite push it on to the bar. Walsall continuing the pressure caught Coventry on the counter attack to score a second.
Coventry could have made it 3 from a penalty when a Walsall player handled the ball in the technical area. With the game continuing at a high tempo Walsall scored a third with 10 minutes still to go. Coventry lifting themselves in the final 10 minutes continued to pressure on the Walsall goal but unfortunately were to able equalise.
Coventry City Girls 0 - 2 Derby County Ladies
League 5/11/11
Good game with two well matched sides Derby to be fare just looked a little sharper than Coventry as we struggled to get in to gear after the two week break, the deadlock was finally broke at 38 mins when Coventry failed to clear a ball in the 18 box and after a couple of attempts Derby found the net. Derby scoring again on 40mins after forcing a corner from a strong attack.
Second half was much the same as the first both sides well matched forcing pressure on either ends. Coventry looking better as the game moved in to the later stages and were denied a late goal after Lauren aka Dave charged the left wing and shot at goal with the Derby keeper just pushing it on to bar.
Note able performances from Jodie with a couple of outstanding saves, and Lauren aka Dave
Coventry City Girls 4 - 3 Redditch United
League 1/10/11
Coventry starting well opened the scoring with a goal from Woody in the 9th Minute.
Redditch as always gritty and determined equalised from a thundering free kick from just outside the Coventry box in the 14th minute, and then adding a second from a Corner
Coventry having had a number of chances go wide, over or Saved by the talented Redditch Keeper throughout the first half were not able to their score before the break.
Half Time Coventy City Girls 1 - 2 Redditch United
The Second half I feel Coventry began to take greater control of midfield with the strong performance from Sophie as the holding player along with Abbie's first touch and control allowed them time to pick the passes out to the Wingers Charlie and Ash and turning the Redditch defence.
Coventry's Second coming from a set piece corner with Cody steering the ball in to the net with a strong header at 57 minutes.
Coventry finally taking the lead in the 63rd minute with a determined inpidual effort by Abbie beating 3 players and a well placed shot finishing in the back of the net.
Redditch always looking dangerous on the attack throughout the second half equalised in the 70th minutes when I high reaching ball just slipped through the fingers of the Coventry Keeper allowing one of their players to run through and slot it in the net.
Coventry nearly grabbing an injury time winner Lauren aka Dave charged down the left wing over lapping Charlie (who placed a lovely through pass to her feet) running in to the Redditch 18yard powered a ball across the face goal which was just begging for a slight deflection in to the net but unfortunately there was no one to meet it.
Half Time Coventy City Girls 3 - 3 Redditch United
Coventry winning the toss for the Extra time restart and were quick to take the lead with a second goal from Woody in the 82nd Minute and defended strongly until the end of Extra Time.
Final Result Coventy City Girls 4 - 3 Redditch United
Very Difficult to single out one player from a fantastic team performance but for her tireless chasing of every loose ball up front.
Girl of the Match: Emily Watson.
Coventry City Girls 3 - 4 Wednesbury Wildcats
League 24/9/11
After two wins on the trot, Coventry went into this game full of confidence against the early league leaders Wednesbury Wildcats.
Coventry started the game very well, playing some nice attacking possession football, but went behind against the run of play to a Wednesbury goal after 25 minutes. To the girls credit they carried on playing some excellent football and ten minutes later Coventry pulled a goal back from a well taken penalty by Ash.
Half Time Coventry City Girls 1 - 1 Wednesbury Wildcats
The second half started with Coventry getting a very early corner, from the 41 minute corner Ash managed to get in front of the defender at the near post to flick the ball into the net for her second goal. With both teams playing some nice attacking football, it was Coventry who got their third goal with a nice finish from the deserving Emily. On 64 minutes and after some hesitation in the Coventry defence Wednesbury got their second goal. Then from the restart Coventry lost possession and Wednesbury capitalised with their third goal in the 65 minute
With 15 minutes left and with both teams still going for the win, it looked likely a draw would be the fair result. Then with the game going into injury time Wednesbury got a corner, the corner was very well taken, which resulted in a scramble for the ball on the goal line and unfortunately for Coventry the ball went into the net for a fourth goal for Wednesbury.
Chasetown Ladies 0 - 3 Coventry City Girls
League 17/9/11
Pretty even first thirty minutes of the first with Coventry pressing and attacking but some strong defending and counter attacking from Chasetown, with the dead lock finally broken at 36 minutes by one of Abbie's Trademark floating balls assisted by the wind from about 22 yards lifted the ball over the heads of the defence and keeper dipping neatly under the bar.
Closely followed by second for Abbie this time a sweetly taken free kick from just outside the 18yard box and right of the goal again lifting the ball over the defending wall and into the net. 0-2 half time.
Chasetown with the benefit of the wind in the second half pressed Coventry a number times and probably should have scored after breaking through the Coventry defence with a quality 1-2 move but were unlucky as their player just couldn't quite get the ball out from her feet in time to take the shot and following a goal mouth scramble the ball was finally cleared.
Early second half substitution bringing on Dave (Lauren) and Reevo (Charlie) both returning from injury, Dave immediately making some charging runs on the left with an end cross which was so good caught everyone by surprise and passed straight across the face of the Chasetown goal.
Eryn chalked up her third of the season mid way through the second half making the full time score 0-3.
Another pleasing team performance with comments from two parents the best football they had seen Coventry play.
Girl of the Match Lauren Hancock.
Coventry City Girls 4 - 0 Wednesfield
League 10/9/11
Great team performance from the girls this week, with continuos pass and move football Coventry had good spells of possession during the game.
Goals from Eryn, Abbie and Emily gave Coventry a 2-0 lead at half time and 4-0 full time winning result.
Particular thanks to Alex, Cody and Sophie for a very strong performance playing out of their normal positions.
Wednesfield playing their first game of the season had their chances and the result could have been different.
Some good individual skills from both teams made an enjoyable game to watch and we look forward to another tough game when we travel to Wednesfield in the coming months.
Walsall Ladies 5 - 1 Coventry City Girls
League 3/9/11
The early start to the season has made pre-season friendly's impractical having only 6's and 7's available for training though the holiday period. That said a positive start to the first league game going 30 minutes head to head against last years convincing league winners without conceding.
After 30 mins we conceded a weak goal mouth scramble from a corner. After letting our heads drop and concentration slipping we conceded three more in quick succession, 2 well taken shots and the third which might have been disallowed had the referee seen the foul on our Keeper Jodie.
Possibly a flattering scoreline for Walsall at half time which was added to 9 minutes in to the second from a penalty after Jodie was deemed to have fouled a Walsall player when she bravely went to ground to collect the ball.
Coventry increasing in confidence in the second half continually pressured the Walsall back four until finally scoring at 77 minutes, a lovely floating ball from Abbie headed right of the goal by the defence Emily the first to react quickly wiped it back across the face of the goal for Charlie to finish.
After 78 minutes and chance of a second goal after an individual battle from Woody managed to poke the ball through the defence for Emily who under pressure just lifted the ball over the bar.
A disappointing scoreline from an encouraging performance. Next week Wednesfield at Home.
